Citroën Ami Super Break-1973. The Citroën Ami Super was launched in January 1973 and, while it looks like the Ami 8, it has a larger, more powerful horizontally-opposed flat 4-cylinder air cooled engine of 1015cc and 55 hp, almost doubling the 8's power. The Ami Super was the top-of-the-line Ami and was positioned between the Citroën GS.

The Ami Super was a bit of a hot rod by economy car standards owing to its light weight, but it looked like a decade-old Ami and it was pricey for what it was, so most 1970s Amis were just the regular 2-cylinder Ami 8, which ran into 1978 before being replaced by the Visa. The Ami Super was not a sales success, and disappeared after a few years, while the Ami 8 soldiered along until 1979. But that wasn't the only engine transplant the Ami received. Not surprisingly, ever-adventurous Citroen was an early adopter of the rotary engine, and created a joint venture with NSU, Comotor, to build them.
