Coordinates: 32°49′54″S 151°54′4″E Stockton Beach is located north of the Hunter River in New South Wales, Australia. It is 32 km (20 mi) long and stretches from Stockton, to Anna Bay. Over many years Stockton Beach has been the site of numerous shipwrecks and aircraft crashes.

Description This walk on lands of the Worimi people heads down a beach access track before arriving at the beach and Tin City, which is a cluster of 11 shacks on Stockton Beach that have become half-buried with the dune movement. It was featured in several scenes of the 1979 movie Mad Max.

Amongst the dunes is a strange settlement of ramshackle structures known as Tin City. At first, rising from the sand, you expect to see a Stormtrooper and a droid, perhaps an Interceptor, but it's actually the last legal squatters settlement in Australia. The 'city' started in the early 1900s as tin shacks for shipwreck survivors.

Tin City is an off the grid isolated community living in 11 self-built tin sheds constructed over 100 years at Stockton Dunes on NSW's mid north coast. There are no roads to Tin City. Half buried, this squatters' settlement seems to appear from out of nowhere. Due to its unique qualities, the site is often used as a setting by film crews.
